Unique Aesthetics of Japanese Design
American design is rooted in an innovative culture, leading the world with a continuous output of creative things. Unlike the former, Japanese design relies more on its unique aesthetic culture. This unique aesthetic from Japanese culture has constantly attached importance to “feel.” They care about capturing subtle and fleeting moments, and design is a medium that maintains a sensory dialogue with life.
Nowadays, the design emphasizes creatively solving problems. Yet, the new things that lack aesthetic taste cannot be loved by the heart of people. Japanese design is a testament to that; the charm of Japanese design lies in its irreplaceable aesthetics. It shows the expression of unique beauty is a deep and enduring need of human beings, and we should not ignore it.
1. The lifetime existed in the subtleties
“Once in a lifetime.” ( Ichi-go-Ichi-e) is a saying in Japanese tea ceremony(known as sadō/chadō) culture, which means that every encounter is the only chance in life. It expresses the time concept of the Japanese; that is, life is impermanent, and we must cherish this moment. The short opening of the cherry blossoms is not sentimental. The momentary splendor allows people to see that life can be brilliant at every moment. This moment is not just a point in time; it contains memories of the past and ideas for the future.
